Umrah is a deeply spiritual journey that gives Muslims an opportunity to leave behind the distractions of daily life and turn their hearts toward Allah. Along with learning the practical steps of Umrah, preparing a collection of meaningful duas can help pilgrims remain focused, grateful, and spiritually connected throughout the journey. Although there are certain supplications established in the Sunnah for particular moments, there is no requirement to memorize a separate dua for every circuit of Tawaf or Sa’i. Pilgrims can also make sincere personal duas in any language, asking Allah for forgiveness, guidance, mercy, and blessings.
Before leaving home, a pilgrim can recite the well-known travel supplication: “Bismillahi tawakkaltu ‘alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah,” meaning, “In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no power or strength except with Allah.” This dua reflects reliance upon Allah and reminds the pilgrim that the entire journey is possible only through His help. When beginning the journey by vehicle, the established travel dua can also be recited, asking Allah to make the journey easy, grant righteousness and piety, and protect the traveler and their family.
One of the most important supplications associated with Umrah is the Talbiyah, which is recited after entering Ihram and continues until Tawaf begins. The Talbiyah begins, “Labbayka Allahumma labbayk,” meaning, “Here I am, O Allah, here I am.” It continues by affirming that Allah has no partner and that all praise, blessings, and sovereignty belong to Him. Reciting the Talbiyah allows the pilgrim to express their response to Allah’s call and keeps the heart focused on worship during the journey to Makkah.
During Tawaf, pilgrims should remember Allah frequently and make sincere supplications. There is no authentic requirement to recite a particular dua for each of the seven rounds. Instead, a pilgrim may praise Allah, send blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, recite Quran, seek forgiveness, and ask for personal and spiritual needs. When reaching the Black Stone, “Allahu Akbar” is traditionally said. Between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone, one of the most important duas to remember is, “Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina ‘adhaban-nar,” meaning, “Our Lord, grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”
Another important part of Umrah is Sa’i, the walking between Safa and Marwah. At Safa, pilgrims remember Allah, declare His greatness and oneness, and make personal supplications. The same practice is followed at Marwah. These moments provide an opportunity to ask Allah for guidance, forgiveness, steadfastness, family wellbeing, beneficial knowledge, lawful provision, and success in the Hereafter. Remembering the meaning behind the rituals can make the experience more sincere and help the pilgrim appreciate the sacrifice and trust represented by the story of Hajar (peace be upon her).

Before traveling, it is also beneficial to prepare a personal list of duas. A pilgrim can ask Allah to accept the Umrah, forgive sins, strengthen faith, grant good health, protect family members, ease difficulties, provide lawful sustenance, and grant a righteous life. The Quranic dua, “Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina ‘adhaban-nar,” is particularly comprehensive because it asks for goodness in both this world and the Hereafter.
